enrichment educator

At The Brainchild Collective, we bring youth education programs together to unlock social and emotional learning and drive lifelong impact in students from preschool to graduation.

As an Enrichment Educator, you’ll be responsible for bringing that vision to life through the delivery of SEL-based programming in PK-12 classrooms throughout Chicago. The Brainchild Collective delivers programming in a variety of disciplines steeped in social and emotional learning including Dance, Theater, Improv Comedy, and Career Development for Teens and Pre-Teens. As an Enrichment Educator, you’ll have the opportunity to educate students in any/all of the disciplines that The Brainchild Collective offers.

JOB DETAILS AND EXPECTATIONS

"TBC works to be a trauma-informed and trauma-responsive organization. We know that our students need consistency in order to form enriching relationships with adults in their lives, and thus, find pathways towards emotionally supportive classroom engagement. It's expected that our educators commit fully to their students, as showcased through their consistent attendance and diligent work in finding qualified subs in the event they're unable to teach their classes."

The educator is expected to lead the program from start to finish and ensure any substitute needs are met. Program commitments can range from a few hours to 20+ hours a week based on availability.

Classroom Instruction:

  • Deliver The Brainchild Collective’s in-school, after-school, and professional development programming in Chicago schools in at least one of the following: Dance, Leadership Development, Theater and Improv Comedy. Arts education is a core component of TBC, the arts help students become the best versions of themselves as they begin to develop life skills like resilience and a growth mindset to succeed through graduation and beyond.

  • Maintain an understanding of learning standards, instructional practices, and social and emotional learning assessment metrics to deliver high-quality instruction in all Brainchild Collective programs. Promoting social and emotional learning is a core component of TBC, it is proven that students that have been exposed to strong social and emotional classroom experiences have an increased capacity for exhibiting empath and equity to others that will be an asset to them in their future careers.

  • Implement inclusive instructional practices to support equity for all students.  In order for students to show up and provide support and equity for those around them, students need to feel seen and supported by their educators.

  • Prepare students for end of session showcases, pitches for additional programming, or other culminating events. Showcasing the skills students have learned throughout the program is a great way for students to celebrate their growth. The educator supporting and being present at their showcase helps students feel appreciated and supported.

  • Understand the commitment required when accepting a program. Program commitments can range from a few hours to 20+ hours a week based on availability. Each program has a different time expectation, and regardless of how long the program is, the educator must show up to every class, inconsistency can diminish trust with the program participants and partners.

  • The educator is expected to lead the program from start to finish and ensure any substitute needs are met. The educator is expected to find a substitute from TBC’s sub pool. If a substitute cannot be found for that time, then the educator is still expected to go to their class to teach.

Program Assessment:

  • Conduct student assessments and complete accurate evaluation forms for all classrooms. Assessments are important for all TBC programs to collect data that will help TBC conduct programs that are worthwhile for both students and educators.

  • Communicate with The Brainchild Collective’s administrative team throughout your programs to ensure areas of success, concern and improvement are addressed appropriately. TBC encourages open lines of communication to foster growth for both educators and administrators in the company.

Community Engagement:

  • Maintain a presence at school family nights and community events. Attending school events, especially ones that showcase your students is essential for the growth of your students. Seeing their teacher at these events cheering them on goes a long way for the success and morale of students.

  • Support the larger youth development ecosystem by building relationships with our community of enrichment educators. Connecting with fellow educators and administrators in the program you are running will not only be helpful to yourself as an educator in the community, but it will foster a strong community of growth that will help your students thrive.
